$JOE
The Emoti Guy
The one who stays calm when everyone else panics. Hold with confidence.
The OG Emoji — Born in 2004
EmotiGuy is one of the oldest 3D emoji characters on the internet. Created by Dark Whisper for DAZ Originals back in 2004, this yellow guy with white gloves existed long before emoji became mainstream. He was featured in Digital Puppet Magazine in Winter 2005, where he was described as potentially "the most popular digital puppet ever."
20 Years of Memes
What started as a free 3D model became one of the most viral characters on the internet:
- 2004–2005 — Dark Whisper creates EmotiGuy for Daz3D. Free download, 41 facial expressions, 22 poses
- 2012 — EmotiGuy starts appearing as memes on Facebook, Tumblr, and 4chan
- 2014 — Argentinian users create "Picardía" — the iconic thumbs-up sunglasses variant that goes mega-viral across Latin America
- 2020 — The character gets nicknamed "Joe" in a Discord community called JOE HUB
- 2023–2025 — Animator @joes_intern creates new GIFs that explode across X/Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok. The dancing Joe GIF alone gets hundreds of millions of views
From Tumblr shitposts to TikTok virality — Joe has survived every era of the internet. No other emoji character has been this relevant for this long.
The Most Viral Emoji Ever
Joe isn't just old — he's everywhere. The yellow face has been remixed, animated, and memed across every platform imaginable. He's been a VRChat avatar, a Twitch emote, a reaction GIF staple, and now a cultural icon recognized by millions. Unlike corporate emoji from Apple or Google, Joe was born from the community and stayed with the community.
The Creator: Dark Whisper
The original creator of EmotiGuy goes by Dark Whisper (real identity kept private). He created the character while working with 3D Universe for DAZ Productions. For years, Dark Whisper had no social media presence and was completely unreachable — until the $JOE community tracked him down through LadyLittlefox, a fellow 3D artist who knew him from the early DAZ days.
Dark Whisper confirmed his identity by sharing never-before-seen original EmotiGuy models from 2004 that couldn't be found anywhere online. He revealed that EmotiGuy originally started as a sunflower-based character — but his mom said it "creeped her out," so he redesigned it into the iconic yellow emoji we know today.
$JOE — The Token
$JOE exists to honor the legacy of EmotiGuy and its creator. Built on Cardano, launched directly by Dark Whisper from his personal wallet. The creator rewards go to the creator. Simple as that.
This isn't just another meme token — it's backed by 20 years of internet history and the most recognizable emoji character ever made.
